Downtowns Canada is a national coalition of the International Downtown’s Association members who represent Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) across Canada. In our inaugural year we brought together 17 BIAs to:
“unite Canada and lay the foundation of the Coalitions’ advocacy and research efforts”
We believe that downtowns, are the central social, cultural, historic and economic drivers of Canada’s municipalities.
Research from both the Conference Board of Canada and the Canadian Urban Institute has confirmed the significant impact downtowns and urban centres have on municipalities’ and the national GDP. Yet, federal investment and funding policy does not reflect this reality.
The Downtowns Canada 2015 Downtown Declaration outlines a national strategy for Canada’s downtowns and articulates a new federal role in downtown/urban development.
We are ready to share this declaration with our colleagues and citizens across the country.
