Downtown Winnipeg – 3,850 Winnipeggers showed all of Canada how much they truly love their city and downtown, as they dressed in red and white t-shirts and patriotic attire to assemble into one of Canada’s largest living flags at Shaw Park this morning. WATCH THE FLAG FORMATION HERE.

“While we await the results from competing cities, I think it is safe to say that Winnipeggers demonstrated true community pride this morning at Shaw Park,” said Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown BIZ. “Our flag was made up of people from all walks of life – a real multicultural mosaic and snapshot truly representative of our downtown community. Not only did our living flag look bigger than last year, we showed just how much civic pride and love we have for our city.”

With a bright, sunny and festive backdrop, the 5th annual Canada Day Living Flag event brought Winnipeggers together to celebrate our wonderful country as a collectively engaged community, attracting young and old, as well as new Canadians, to celebrate not only Canada’s birthday, but also the 150th anniversary of our maple leaf flag. The event is part of a larger push towards 2017, Canada’s 150th birthday, where we hope to engage and mobilize even more Winnipeggers to participate.
